Biography / Sadik Kwaish Alfraji

Sadik Kwaish Alfraji, Born in Baghdad 1960. A visual artist, works in drawing, painting, animation & video installation. Studied art, graphic design and philosophy. lives and works in Amersfoort, Netherlands. He pursuit his art profession begin the 1980s in Baghdad, depending on the expressionistic intensity of the graphic and focusing on the ideas and concepts of the existence.

His work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Asia, Europe, United States, in several art venues such as Queensland Art Gallery, Australia, Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art, Qatar. Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah, UAE. Maraya Art Centre, Sharjah, UAE. British Museum, London. The Iraq Pavilion of the 57th Venice Biennale. Mori Art Museum, Tokyo. Alfraji was named Artist of the Year at the Esquire Middle East Awards in 2012 ; Grant, Driven By Storms (Ali’s Boat), Mondriaan Fund, Amsterdam, Netherlands 2015 ; Prize of the 13th Cairo International Biennale Cairo ; He was invited for a research residency at L’appartement 22 in 2018 and a solo show is organized in Rabat in 2020.

A monograph on the artist edited by Nat Mueller was published in 2015 (Schilt Publishing, Amsterdam).
