MultiPistes

MultiPistes is a collaborative project featuring artistic productions, site-specific events and publications. The project aims to create interactions between contemporary art and the general public, engaging new audiences, and reflecting on different political and cultural conditions. Captured in four bullet points, MultiPistes will comprise:

* exhibitions and other artistic events involving experiences in different territories, including among others Morocco, the Netherlands, Egypt, South Africa and Spain; * two conferences reflecting on and exchanging ideas about curatorial approaches and networking both inside and outside of cultural institutions. The conferences will take place in Rabat at the beginning and in Amsterdam at the end of MultiPistes; * a series of publications relating to each art project, and one general publication by all the curators and invited authors with critical analyses of the curatorial methods; and * a website (www.multipistes.org) providing information on and documenting each project. In addition, the website will host two internet based projects.

The term ‘MultiPistes’ is inspired by a French concept used for musical recordings along multiple tracks (‘pistes’) embodying, in this case, a project using independent tracks that interact and operate simultaneously.

Avoiding geopolitical considerations, MultiPistes is based on different artists’ strategies and their relation to each other within an international context. A common thread that runs through all the projects is the desire to creatively impact upon and within day-to-day living. Covering a wide range of mediums, the projects will mostly take place outside regular art scenes.

MultiPistes offers audiences the possibility to experience artistic projects in progress. The project mirrors the image of contemporary houses in many countries, built as an open-ended structure. On the roof, steel structures in readiness for another storey, when the time comes.
